Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) or Telehealth-only treatment for teens and adults, with a special focus on traumatic events and end-of-life issues.
Two Pathways to Healing
The Equine-Assisted Path
Equine-assisted psychotherapy offered out of Red Lion Farm in Gray, Maine
Equinox Therapy Services provides EAP for teens (age 15+) and adults who are ready to take an active role in their own healing. Meaghan and the herd help you to work towards reducing symptoms of traumatic activation. Grow as your equine partner teaches you how to set firm but gentle, connected boundaries, guides you in understanding what you’re bringing to the session, and helps you reprocess traumatic memories to turn down the “intensity dial” and bring relief and healing.
Meaghan combines equine-assisted work with mindfulness, somatic awareness, emotional regulation, and trauma-reprocessing modalities including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR). As a trained End-of-Life Doula, Meaghan is also uniquely equipped to help those experiencing life-limiting illnesses or facing a terminal diagnosis.
Riding is not the focus of treatment - some people may never ride during their time as a client at Equinox Therapy Services. Riding may be a part of treatment after you have built a relationship with your horse and if it is indicated as part of your treatment.
During the winter, we move to a hybrid model, meeting in a 4-5 week block remotely via telehealth, followed by a 4-5 week block of equine-assisted sessions at the farm, alternating blocks through winter. This helps us to work around some of the weather, temperature, and space challenges that arise during the coldest months. During the “on-season” and during the blocks of time during the “hybrid season” that in-person sessions are bring offered, clients on the Equine-Assisted Path are expected to attend sessions in-person, not via telehealth. Exceptions may be made for illness or weather.
